Making health products available

Products to People

VillageReach has a supply chain portfolio that ensures the supply of lifesaving vaccines and health products arrives at the last mile. High-performing public health supply chains are a critical component of a responsive primary health care system that delivers health products and services. They must be equitable, people-centered, resilient and sustainable. The design guarantees the delivery of products to primary health care facilities and community health workers across Africa.

Lifesaving Health Care Takes Flight

VillageReach’s Drones for Health solution improves access to health products by integrating drones into supply chains. In collaboration with governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations, we are demonstrating the potential to improve product availability and increase equitable access to lifesaving medicines and vaccines. Drones help to save time where it is more geographically challenging for cars, motorcycles or boats to reach and also have the potential to create cost-efficiencies.

Supply Chain Integrators

VillageReach’s Supply Chain Integrators is a catalytic investment to build health care supply chains that are demand-driven, resilient and integrated. This investment will standardize, strengthen and integrate supply chain workforces—transforming them from ad hoc, global donor-funded networks into a sustainable and structured workforce endorsed by local communities and national governments.

Supply Chain Integrators Overview

Program Objective 1:

Public health supply chains are more integrated and resilient

Program Objective 2:

Government leadership and stewardship of supply chain investments strengthened

Program Objective 3:

Private sector increases participation in primary health care

Program Objective 4:

Funders and implementors integrate perspectives and practices for supply chain integration

Building the Next Generation of Supply Chains

High-performing supply chains are essential to ensuring that vaccines, contraceptives, and essential medicines reach the last mile. We work with governments to design and implement equitable supply chains that meet country-specific needs.

Supply Chain Implementations

Our Expertise

  • Transport Logistics Solutions
  • Human Resources
  • Equity

VillageReach helps ministries of health address transportation issues such as expensive vehicle fleets and tough terrain to deliver health products where they are needed most. This can include outsourcing transportation or warehousing to third party providers (3PLs) to improve transportation reliability, efficiency, or responsiveness in low-resource settings.

Supply Chains are only as strong as the people managing them. VillageReach works with supply chain personnel, and the health care workforce at the national and local levels to ensure they have the training, resources and products they need for health care delivery.

Applying an equity lens to addressing supply chain barriers can help ensure health products are:

  • Conveniently accessible to all
  • Available when needed
  • Usable at the point of delivery

Data-Driven Decisions

Many health workers and supply chain workers across Africa do not have access to reliable and accurate data to effectively manage medical supply chains. The electronic logistics management information system (eLMIS) solution can improve, support and automate supply chain data collection and processes in alignment with global standards and best practices.

OpenLMIS is an open-source eLMIS software that is customizable and specifically designed for low-resource settings. To ensure the software’s sustainability and growth VillageReach transitioned management of OpenLMIS to private sector company Vitalliance Corporation.

Equipping Community Health Workers

For many people living in remote areas in Africa community health workers (CHWs) are their only touchpoint with the public health system. CHWs are critical to achieving health care for all in a cost-effective manner, but first they must be equipped with the health products they need to serve their communities. VillageReach works with governments and communities to design supply chain solutions that focus on CHW needs, and work to integrate them into national supply chain planning and implementation.
