DAI-Led Consortium Featuring VillageReach to Bolster Health Supply Chains for USAID’s NextGen Program

May 15, 2024 – VillageReach is proud to announce its participation in a consortium awarded indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract as part of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Global Health Comprehensive Technical Assistance for Health Supply Chain and Pharmaceutical Management (Comprehensive TA) program.

This consortium, led by DAI, plan to play a critical role in USAID’s Next Generation Global Health Supply Chain Suite of Programs (NextGen), a ten-year initiative aimed at ensuring sustainable access to essential health products for USAID partner countries. VillageReach will bring its proven leadership in strengthening public health supply chains in developing countries.

“VillageReach is honored to join this high-impact consortium and contribute our expertise to USAID’s NextGen program,” said Dr. Bannet Ndyanabangi, VillageReach’s Vice President, Global Programs. “Strengthening public health supply chains is vital for delivering lifesaving medicines and improving health outcomes in under-reached communities. We are confident that by collaborating with DAI and our fellow consortium members, we can make a significant impact.”

The NextGen program prioritizes building long-term, efficient health supply chains within partner countries. Over the next decade, USAID implementing partners including the consortium will have the opportunity to work alongside local governments and health care providers to achieve the following objectives:

  • Reliable Supply of High-Quality Commodities: Ensure a consistent supply of essential health products through robust public and private sector channels, fostering long-term sustainability.
  • Improved Availability of Essential Medicines: Enhance supply chain performance to increase access to quality-assured health commodities.
  • Stronger Pharmaceutical Management Systems: Develop high-quality pharmaceutical services and well-functioning regulatory frameworks.

VillageReach brings its extensive experience in delivery solutions for communities at the last mile and data-driven supply chain management to the consortium. The organization will work closely with partners to ensure essential medicines reach the communities that need them most, particularly in remote and under-reached areas.

DAI’s consortium for the Comprehensive TA IDIQ consists of major subcontractor Crown Agents and other distinguished partners: ClickMedix; Crowley Government Services; Dalberg Consulting U.S.; EnCompass; Freight in Time; Medication Outcomes Center, School of Pharmacy and the Institute of Global Health Sciences, University of California San Francisco; Axia Institute at Michigan State University; Pamela Steele Associates; University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – Carolina Population Center; and VillageReach.

The competitive contracting mechanism is designed to ensure that USAID partner countries have sustainable access to safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable health commodities. The  Comprehensive TA IDIQ will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through other donor and national and local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems.

By collaborating with DAI, Crown Agents, and other distinguished consortium members, VillageReach aims to play a key role in achieving NextGen’s ambitious goals and ensuring that lifesaving health products reach those who need them most.
