Describe your job in one sentence.
Doesn’t “controller” say it all? Kidding. I’m kind of like the guy at the top of the pirate ship alerting the crew to what’s coming. But in one sentence – The dam through which all financial and operation information flows.
What is one thing you hope to achieve in your job?
I would love to provide the VillageReach story in numbers – pairing our programmatic outcomes with the corresponding financial story. This would allow program leads and the management team insight into our financial successes, financial challenges and the road map to creating a sustainable and achievable future for the important work that we do!
What is something you are passionate about outside of work?
I am glad you said “something” rather than “one thing” since I have multiple passions. I am passionate about being active, cooking, and reading. I think the first one is because of my passion for the last two.
What is your favorite book and why?
Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. I read this when I was in my early 20s. This book caused me to question my Indiana perspective on life and the world – ultimately leading me away from Indiana, away from being a Republican, away from conventional and traditional ways of living, and pushing me to travel and move to Seattle. Grapes of Wrath inspired in me a depth of empathy for humans who are forced away from their lives and cultures and then punished by non-compassionate, narrow-minded humans for seeking to better that situation. It was the first look into the privilege I have experienced, and it truly humbled me.
